Elaine Mistretta and Joseph Flournoy use their 2009 STREAM Classroom Awards
Participants from STREAM 2009 were invited to submit applications for robotics materials for their classrooms. Two teachers received classroom kits through generous funding from Boston SIM and the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council. The recipients were Joseph Flournoy of Littleton Middle School and Elaine Mistretta of Haverhill High School.
Joseph Flournoy's award included 10 Lego Mindstorm kits, software, and 6 Lego Mindstorm books. Joseph teaches math at the 6th grade level and used the Lego Mindstorms materials to introduce concepts of robotics, mathematics, engineering, and computer programming. The materials were also used to work on social skills, team work, delegation, and lessons of problem solving. See his STREAM award page for more information.
Elaine Mistretta received 10 Cricket cars and practice tables with maze-like challenges for the cars. Elaine has had an afterschool robotics club for the past 3 years, which is based on the Botball curriculum. She applied for the award so she could run a robotics class as an introduction to Computer Science for students. For pictures and more information, see her STREAM award page.
