UMass Lowell Rover Hawks Win NASA RASC-AL Robo-Ops Competition!
The UMass Lowell Rover Hawks have won this year's NASA RASC-AL Robo-Ops Competition! A team of students traveled to Houston, Texas with the Rover Hawk last week, while another team of students worked from the NERVE Center to teleoperate the rover.
All eight teams got to practice on the Johnson Space Center Rock Yard on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, where we observed that the Rover Hawk was able to traverse a variety of terrain. Each team's rover got weighed that night, and the lightest rover got to pick their competing slot first. The Rover Hawk was the third lightest, picking the 6th slot to compete. The Rover Hawks' score from the Rock Yard was 56 points, with University of Maryland in 2nd at 55 points, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 3rd with 54 points. Points were also scored based on outreach using social media sites Facebook and YouTube. With all of this combined, the Rover Hawks took first place! Congratulations to all.
